Security and Business Leaders Create Actionable Risk Identification and Reporting With Dataminr

CYBER DEFENSE
A global consumer packaged goods manufacturer needed to move cyber risk out of the security team’s spreadsheets and into the boardroom — expressed in the financial language that business leaders act on. Dataminr’s Continuous Control Monitoring with Risk Quantification capability made that translation possible, at enterprise scale, in under 90 days.
The Challenge
The organization faced a risk visibility problem with three distinct dimensions:
Manual cyber risk quantification processes could not scale across a complex enterprise — the effort required to produce meaningful numbers was itself a risk.
Individual applications across the business carried cyber risk implications that were poorly understood, leaving security and business stakeholders operating with an incomplete picture of exposure.
Without a shared financial framework for risk, security and business leadership had no common foundation for collaboration or prioritization.
The Solution
Dataminr CCM with RQ gave the organization the structure to define, visualize, and communicate cyber risk in terms that both security and business leaders could act on.
A baseline cyber risk tolerance was established for the enterprise as a whole and for individual lines of business, creating a shared reference point for all subsequent risk conversations. Financial views of inherent, residual, and acceptable risk levels were created, translating technical exposure into the quantitative language that C-suite and board conversations require. Business leaders gained direct visibility into the financial impact of changes in security controls, enabling informed decisions about where to invest, what risk to accept, and what to escalate.
The Outcome
Results were delivered for over 250 applications and 30 separate legal entities in less than 90 days. C-suite and board conversations now include financial cyber risk as a standing agenda item.
Business application owners now understand and can formally accept the risk implications of control changes, shifting cyber risk from a security team concern to a shared business responsibility. This proves that Dataminr CCM with RQ turned a compliance exercise into a strategic capability.
